Sorry I haven't been able to update you on our market coming up on next Friday night 28th and Saturday 29th October. While Phil was in India her online service went down and i was unable to access the blog. However here I am now. Above is Phil and I in our witches hats that Phil made.

Above are some new products I will have on my table, I will also have a new range of magazines Somerset Studio's and the beautiful Jeanne d'arc Living. There are new exhibitors as well as your usual favourites. And of course the wonderful home cooked coffee, cake and sandwiches.

We are very pleased to have a lovely lady all the way from Mt Barker who makes and sells the most incredible florentines, flavours like Tropical, Pina Colado, Jamaica Dream are only 3 of 10 different flavours, treat yourself and these will make wonderful christmas gifts if you can hold onto them that long before temptation overtakes you

While you are in Guildford attending our market why not take the time to visit a few of the local shops who are very supportive. Just along the road in James Street is the beautiful Storia.

I couldn't resist this lovely little porcelain star for Christmas from Storia.

And from Panache around opposite the Rose and Crown hotel I bought three of these butterflies on clips to go on a white tree, now you know how i love white.white

and several more shops on James street well worth looking into.

And somewhere to eat, you can spoil yourself at Jezebelle's, what an opulent restaurant, the serve Australian style tapa's, great to share with a friend.

Something more down to earth, on Friday night across the road is the well known Alberts great for Hamburgers, so something to suit all and you will find several more down the street.

Our dates for our next Market is Friday 28th October 2011 from 6 pm to 9 pm and Saturday 29th October from 9.30 am to 4 pm.
We only hold this market twice a year and the theme for this one is vintage halloween, we try do a different theme each fair, as you can see from the photos below we had a vintage Japanese theme last time.

Our dates for our next market are 28th and 29th of October, this will be a halloween theme, so should be good, we have some great ideas all ready. What do you think? This is a vintage poster that Wendy had on her stall, dated 1961 great year, great music. Now that ages me aye.

Cherry Blossom Time

In the foyer we hung a beautiful vintage kimono and on the steps we had Japanese lanterns with a meandering river of white and black stones and in amongst candles, this looked wonderful when it got darker and we lit the candles.

Following are images of our market held on the weekend. It was really rewarding to see so many of the exhibitors decorating their stalls and dressing in the theme we set, many stallholders had made cherry blossom branches and it looked wonderful.

I have been busy making new stock for our market in a Japanese theme, vintage albumn pages, vintage lace and handpainted bird images. Still making those cherry blossoms, should look amazing. See you on Friday night in my Kimono, that should be fun!!

I am selling a new magazine from Denmark, Jeanne d'Arc Living which until recently was in Danish and lucky for us it now is also published in English.

This magazine is printed on recycled paper and epitomizes everything that inspires me. A lifestyle magazine with lovely homes, gardens and recipes.

I will have them for sale at Miss Johnson's Vintage and Handmade Market next week, below is a sneak peek at some of the pages.

Visit historical Guildford after visiting our market of course. there are some truly unique shops some old and some very new.

Walking from the hall where Miss Johnson's Vintage and Handmade Market is back towards Bassendean you will come across a truly delightful new shop call "Storia" a visual treat as well as selling some beautiful clothing, upmarket Jewellery and gift items. have a look at the beautiful boxes you won't be disappointed

two doors down is Dee's shop which does not have a name yet but is well worth having a look.

Around the corner there is a lovely gift shop, these shops are all nice and new.

across the road next to the old pub that was burnt down, it is time the council gave some approvals for rebuilding before it deteriorates too much, would be such a shame to lose another historical old pub from this district, you will find a delightful shop "Oriental Origins" in what was an old theatre at one time, the stage is still intact. You will find lovely oriental items very old looking.

Browsing on James is the next must see if you are looking some lovely looking gift lines.

Precious Gifts is another one for special gifts

Stories on the Wall is next door, amazing shop, unbelievable art and furniture made from rubbed back painted timber, very unique.

Basic Elements is one of my very favourite shops in this strip, lots of old items from Asia. So much character make sure you go out the back door there is a lovely long courtyard very rustic and just a lovely place to be still.

my other favourite is Curio Warehouse, I just love the old concrete planters in fact I have some on layby. Really neat vintage pieces, they have just got a new shipment in from the UK, go have a look.

Around opposite the Rose and Crown hotel is another new shop called "Panache Living" in the shop that was called Raw. Homewares (lovely) giftwares, furnishing, jewellery and accessories. They also have a very nice range of clothing. You must check this one out.

Almost opposite the Rose and Crown is a little shop "Pasta Pronto" they sell the most amazing freshly made pasta's, they also have some pasta meals. I have bought their fettuccine so yummy

I wasn't aware that you could freeze the pasta for later meals.

The Rose and Crown is always worth a visit, did you know they have a ghost in fact they may have several, there is also a tunnel from the hotel down to the river, not sure if this is still accessible.

Across the road from the Guildford Town Hall where we will be is a very lovely Nursery, if you are a gardener they also have some very lovely garden gift lines.

I thought I would share with you some of the purchases I have made at our Miss Johnson's Vintage and Handmade Market. I always come home with something as we have such lovely stall holders.

I like to make collections around my home and this is a collection of old linens stacked up with a lavendar wand on top, sitting on an old chipped white chair

a lovely old mirror with all the lovely age around the edges. pop an old photo in the corner. this is on my workbench hence the mess

old bone handled knives and forks in a glass jar, we use these and just put the jar on the table.

I find the tines on old forks much sharper to stab salad and vegetables with.

This lovely old velvet cushion was just the right shade of ice blue that I liked I think it came from Mareene's stall.

the frame at the back is one that I sell it also matches my colour scheme

these lovely white cotton curtains look great in my studio, I like the way the let in a bit of light in the sheer lace panel near the top and also the way they puddle on the floor. These came from Michelle's stall they are not old but I do like them

below is this lovely little bed tray with retractable legs I loved the beautiful colour of blue, cannot remember which stall I bought this off. looks good with some lovely old china and a fresh rose

I do love glass domes and have a few in different sizes, this was also from Michelle, the desert forks next to it are old though

old clocks is something else I like to have a collection of as well as old used stencils

It has become a custom, before we open the doors to the customers we welcome all our stall holders and give them a glass of wine and chocolates. We really appreciate all their efforts and it is our small way of saying thank you for putting in such a big effort to make our market what it is becoming. October 2010 Market

Well its a week since our last market, I have recovered enough to get these photo's on the blog for you. I am sure you will agree, we had a lovely lot of stall holders who did their part to make our market look so good.view leading up the small flight of stairs to the stage area, can you see one of our lovely large postcards printed on vinyl. we where very pleased with how these turned out. We had to have the old postcards printed to a higher resolution so we didn't lose the detail and then they where printed onto vinyl so they would last. We had six done, maybe we will hang them lower at the next market. I know our dad would of been chuckling up there were ever it is we go, there goes those girls again, standing on a rickety ladder atop a trestle, using a pole to push the top up, well dad I was holding that ladder steady while rightfully so Phillipa went up the ladder being the younger, I only let it go to stand back and make sure she had it on straight. This was the view to the right of the stage with Ruth's stall in front.view from the stage looking down the hall to the entrance, it looks quite spacious with customers.

two happy customers all the way from Collie, Nicole who exhibited with us last time and my oldest daughter Kirsty, they drove back to Collie after there little spend up. Following is our three lovely helpers who don't know how important they where and how much we appreciated their help.

The lovely Cheryl top and Gemma (Phillipa's Granddaughter) did the catering for us on Friday night as we only found out on Thursday that our Caterer Passionate could do Friday night as the council hadn't given her approval, so it was a mad dash to find an assortment of our china coffee mugs and plates from home, cakes bought, tea, coffee, milk and cold drinks all purchased while we where also setting up our stalls and the hall, whew!!!! but we made it and the girls where marvelous. The catering on Saturday was also very yummy. It seemed as this time we where fraught with problems from the council, we also had to take our banners down from in front of the hall on Tuesday after putting them up on Monday, another permit we didn't know about and the booking person was not aware of it either, we will have to look into that for the next market.My lovely granddaughter Samara manned the front door Friday night and my outside stall on Saturday in the sun, poor love.

This is Sonja's lovely stall looking all shabby french chic, what a lovely display, we noted customers coming in the front door and just going wow! this makes it all so worth all the hard work we put into making this event that has wow impact, thank you Sonja for such a lovely display.And this is the chic french madame herself looking very jaunty in her red beret, I think the customers loved her stall also if the amount of items I saw walking out the door.

Barbara's another new exhibitor was a hit with her old rusty barbed wire hearts, bird nests, and bird cages. She also had lovely jackets made from old chenille bedspreads and other handmade items. This birds nest below I just had to have. Part of the fun is buying off other stall holders.

Tea had this lovely vintage suitcase brimming with hand embroidered goodies, it is good to see hand made making such a resurgence and Tea is a good example.This American Goose Feather tree Tea bought off me at the last market, she shows it off to great advantage with her hanging embroideries. You should have a look at her hooked embroideries, these are especially nice.

My computor has decided not to download anymore photo's so will give it another go tomorrow.

June Market

Phillipa and I worked until after midnight on the Thursday night, it was freezing cold, what with our record run of tempertures below 5 degrees over 12 days now. We had a wonderful turn out at our Market on the 25th and 26th of June, also a lovely group of exhibitors. I did get to take some photo's prior to opening on the Friday night and would like to share them with you.

Marenna's beautiful linens, and white theme looked stunning, see that cushion, that went home with me.

this is my stall, that little black fur coat was my favourite and really wanted to keep it for one day I might be able to fit back into it. Its funny isn't it, I took 3 fur coats, sold two and managed to keep the one I want, more as a decorating item.

Wendy, the queen of vintage clothing, you learn so much from just watching Wendy in action, she is the ultimate saleswomen, knowledgable about her product, constantly interacting with her customers with an eye for what will suit each customer, her stall is always immaculate.

Fleur had these wonderful feather paisley quilts we sure had a need for these recently, and can you see this wonderful scrapbook, mmmh I thought hard about this one. Oh, can you see that beautiful beaded, lovely shade of blue holder of something, maybe lingerie.

karen clohessy the dollmaker, had all these wonderful bits and peices, now I did succumb to some amazing vintage fabric for a journal from karen.whimsical art by Karla,I am sure these would have been snapped up, do you see all those beautiful old books, I am always getting asked if I will sell my old books, but no no no, they are such treasures and I am not ready to let mine go, so I am sure these would have been popular.

Katherine did a great job on her stall, just loved those black and white vintage patterns on the wall and the open book on Marilyn Monroe, well done Katherine

Marissa had this wonderful collection of leather handbags, in fact a lot of the vintage stalls had lovely collections of gloves, bags, hats etcKims lovely little bibs and bobs, mmmh I do like that painting in the background, I wonder if it sold.

We where very lucky to have the very talented Nicole and Luellen come all the way from Collie to participate in our market, handmade of a very high standard. Beautiful art made from the Golden books, and lots of white art, you should not miss this!!!

If you didn't go upstairs you would have missed out on Phillipa's wonderful stall, so many beautiful things to see. Those tophats are just to die for, and the bottles, I was so lucky to get one for my birthday, oh, oh and that dear little dolls push chair all aged just as I like it.Sue with her beautiful jewellery and her lovely dress designer daughter whose name escapes me

Another Mother and daughter team Ruth with her wonderful Kimono's and flamboyant jewellery and her dress designer daughter. It was wonderful to see two young dress designers and I hope they created a lot of interest.

Last but not least the lovely Tea (what a cool name) with her beautiful handmade items that where very popular.

I had intended to add everyone's email address details in case you wished to contact one of the stall holder, but unfortunately I have been literally sitting at this computor for 5 hours and I am a bit over it. Will try to give you a list in the next few days. Thank you for all of you that attended and made it such a wonderful market and we hope you will visit with us again in October.

With our next Market, 15th and 16th October we hope to increase the number of handmade stalls and also have a variety of vintage items for the garden and other garden type stalls on the outside.

This is the lovely Guildford Town Hall where our market is held. Guildford has some lovely heritage spots to visit while your over this way, it also has some geogous antique and collectables shops as well, there is quite abit to see in Guildford and if you don't drive the train stops not too far away. Off course it also has the famous "Alfreds Kitchen" with its famous pea soup and yummy hamburgers. They have a big open fire outside every night and all the patrons just stand around and enjoy their food. Our last market my sister Jacky and I enjoyed tea over there between setting up the hall for trading next day, I think we got home about around midnight. Things we do.

Our spaces at our June 2010 are filling up nicely and we are trying to get a nice blend of stallholders. We have a mix of previous and new stallholders. Following is one of our new participants.

Ruth makes beautiful jewellery using a blend of vintage pieces and high quality modern beads.

Ruth will also have the most beautiful vintage kimono's for sale - Furisode (party kimonos), Uchikake (elaborate wedding kimonos, Tomisode (for formal wear), Haori (jacket length).

This is a close up view of a Japanese Uchikake (wedding kimono) with elaborately hand embroidered birds and flowers from the late Showa period.We look forward to having Ruth and her daughter Cat Lawford of Poppy Willow join us, Cat a dress designer makes dresses using vintage fabrics.

Just a couple of quick photo's and a update. Our market went so well, we were really pleased as it was our first and that's always a worry, Friday evening was buzzing and a great crowd came through, a terrific response from customers and stall holders alike. The atmosphere was so nice. A big thanks to all our stall holders and also the customers that came through. Next one probably in July. Up until now I have not made any entries, no excuse, just the usual, teaching, running a business and creating new products for this market. These will be new just for this market.

I saw a sample of these one of the Somerset Life magazines winter 2008 by Amy Hanna, I thought it a nice way to display Joannes jewellery, can be sold with the jewellery or separate. Mmmh argh do you know how hard it is to scan jewellery it skitters around on the glass, took my 5 attempts to get this one, still not perfect but you get the idea. I have used vintage album page with an old parlour card. Can be hung on the wall, I have made a pair of these and they are mounted onto old book covers. This one of two is also mounted on old book covers covered in vintage paper.A handmade journal, all pages on finest French watercolour paper, painted in Golden acrylics with illustrations of vintage items on each page. I have kept a very pale colour scheme in this journal. I am up to the point of binding and will get that done in the next week. This is an original one of a kind limited edition.

this small image is of a goose feather Christmas tree of which we will have in a variety of sizes, they look lovely in a white colour scheme.

These beautiful white snow crusted church and house's go so well with the goose feather Christmas trees, go create a vintage vignette in your home this Christmas. My sister Jacky and I have decided to do our own Vintage Market, the Guildford Town Hall has been booked for the 30th and 31st October 2009. We are having the opening on Friday night and all day trading Saturday. It will be a market for all original and handcrafted vintage wares. We want to create the ambiance and atmosphere of a bygone era.
